How the IKEA collection service works

IKEA in the Republic of Ireland means one store — Ballymun in Dublin — and a delivery service that gets expensive quickly, especially for larger orders that go beyond a single parcel. Buying online and picking a proper collection service is very often cheaper, faster and better than paying IKEA's own kerbside fee.

The process is simple. Place your order online for collection at Ballymun, share the order confirmation and your Kilkenny address with us, and we do the round trip. Everything is carried into your home and placed in the right room — not dropped at the front door.

What we collect

  • Full PAX wardrobe systems — the flat-pack that will never fit in a normal car
  • KIVIK, FRIHETEN and EKTORP sofas — including corner units
  • HEMNES, MALM and BRIMNES bedroom sets
  • POÄNG chairs, KALLAX shelving, LACK units — anything oversized
  • Full-kitchen collections (METOD units, worktops, sinks, taps, appliances)
  • Mattresses, bed frames, ottoman-style storage beds
  • Large mirrors, rugs and glass-topped tables

Pricing

  • Single big-item IKEA collection (one PAX, one KIVIK, one MALM set) — from €120
  • Full van-load — typical for kitchen orders, bedroom refurbs, house set-ups — from €180
  • Kilkenny → Waterford or Carlow onward drop on the same run — extra €40
  • Very large kitchen orders where the flat-pack is too much for one van — quoted individually

This compares to IKEA's own home delivery, which often starts around €90 for a small item and rises quickly with volume — plus it's kerbside only, so the customer still has to carry it in.

Coordinating the day

Send the order-confirmation email and a rough delivery window. We check current collection times at Ballymun, book you in on a route that suits, and drive up to collect from the IKEA click-and-collect bay. Ballymun to Kilkenny is roughly 90 minutes each way in normal traffic — you'll get a WhatsApp when we're loaded and again when we're on the last kilometre to your door.

Can I come along?

Yes — plenty of customers make it a day out, especially for kitchen planning or bedroom-refurb runs. Two seats in the cab, plenty of room in the back for the trip home. Adds a bit to the day but saves a separate Dublin round trip and lets you make final choices in-store.

IKEA returns

Returns to Ballymun are handled too. If you've a wardrobe piece that arrived damaged or an item that turned out to be the wrong size, we can collect and drop it back on the next scheduled Ballymun run — priced as a one-way trip.

Coverage from Ballymun

The main delivery city is Kilkenny but the same run drops onward across the South-East — Carlow, Waterford, Wexford, Laois and Tipperary. If we're already on the road, adding a stop is cheap. Cork and Limerick IKEA runs are longer and quoted individually.

Frequently asked

How much is IKEA collection from Dublin to Kilkenny?
Single big-item collection from €120, full van-load from €180. This is typically cheaper than IKEA's own delivery for anything above a couple of small parcels.
Do you assemble the IKEA furniture?
No — flat-pack assembly is a separate trade. We deliver, carry into your home and place. Plenty of independent handymen in Kilkenny handle IKEA assembly at fair rates.
Can I come with you to IKEA?
Yes — many customers do, especially for kitchen or wardrobe planning. Two cab seats, plenty of van space for the way home.
Same-day IKEA collection — is it possible?
Yes if you order in the morning. Call before 10am with the order confirmation and we can often collect and deliver the same afternoon, depending on the current Ballymun collection slot times.
Do you collect from IKEA Belfast?
Occasionally, for larger orders where the price difference or availability justifies the longer day. Quoted individually — it's typically €250+ for the round trip.
Can you drop off part of the load to a second address?
Yes — a Kilkenny drop with an onward drop in Waterford or Carlow on the same run is a common request. Extra €40 for the second address.
What if IKEA has a problem with my order on the day?
It happens — a piece is out of stock, or the collection is short. We'll wait a reasonable amount of time and rebook if the whole order can't be collected. You only pay when the collection succeeds.
Can you return an item to IKEA for me?
Yes — returns to Ballymun on the next scheduled run, priced as a one-way trip. Bring the receipt and we'll drop and get the refund confirmation for you.
