IKEA Collection from Dublin to Kilkenny: How It Works

How IKEA collection from Ballymun to Kilkenny works — what fits in our van, what it costs, and how to plan your IKEA run so it doesn't end in tears.

IKEA's only Republic of Ireland store is at Ballymun in north Dublin. Great if you live in Drumcondra, less great if you're in Kilkenny, Carlow or Waterford and you've just decided you need a 4m PAX wardrobe.

We make the Dublin to South-East IKEA run regularly — sometimes several times a week. Here's how it works and what it costs.

Why use a collection service instead of IKEA delivery

  • IKEA's own delivery to the South-East isn't always available for large items
  • Their delivery price for a single big order to Kilkenny can be €100+
  • We're often cheaper if you have more than one item
  • You can choose your delivery window — same evening if we leave Dublin by lunchtime
  • Most importantly, we lift and carry into your house. IKEA delivery is kerbside only

What fits in our van

A long-wheelbase Ford Transit holds an astonishing amount of IKEA. To give you a feel:

  • A complete PAX wardrobe (multiple modules, doors and interior fittings)
  • A KIVIK 3-seat sofa with chaise, plus a side table
  • A FRIHETEN sofa-bed plus a MALM bed plus a HEMNES drawer unit
  • Two complete bedrooms' worth of furniture (bed, wardrobe, drawers, bedside)
  • Around 20–25 flat-pack boxes plus 6–8 odd-shaped items

If you're not sure, send us your order list before booking and we'll tell you straight whether it'll fit in one trip or whether we need to plan two.

Pricing

  • Single item / small order — from €120
  • Half-van load — around €150
  • Full van load to Kilkenny — from €180
  • Carlow / Waterford / Wexford — add €20–€30
  • Same-day vs next-day — same price

Quotes are agreed before we set off. No surprise toll charges, no fuel surcharge, no carry-in fee.

How to plan an IKEA run that doesn't go sideways

  • Order online or use the IKEA app to build your list — much faster than wandering the showroom
  • Check stock at Ballymun before you confirm — items go in and out of stock weekly
  • Choose “Click & Collect” at checkout — your order will be ready at the collection area
  • Send us the order confirmation (the IKEA email with the QR code)
  • Tell us roughly when you'd like delivery — we'll coordinate the Dublin pickup with that
  • Make sure there's somewhere to park at your end and an extra pair of hands for big lifts like a corner sofa

Same-day vs next-day

If you ring us before 9am, a same-day Dublin IKEA run to Kilkenny is realistic — we pick up by 1pm and have you delivered by 5pm. Anything after lunch usually goes to the next day. Saturday IKEA runs are also doable but tend to book out a week ahead.

Frequently asked

How much is IKEA delivery from Dublin to Kilkenny?

Through us, a full van load starts at €180. A single big item like a PAX wardrobe or KIVIK sofa starts at €120. IKEA's own delivery for similar items is typically €100+ and kerbside-only.

Do you assemble the IKEA furniture?

We don't do flat-pack assembly — that's a separate skill and a separate trade. We deliver, carry in, place where you want it and unwrap. There are plenty of independent IKEA assembly services in Ireland.

Can I come in the van for the IKEA trip?

Yes — many customers do, especially for big planning purchases. Adds a bit to the day but saves you a separate Dublin trip.

Do you collect from any other IKEA?

Dublin Ballymun is the only Republic of Ireland IKEA store. We can also collect from IKEA Belfast for South-East customers but it's a long day and priced accordingly.

What about returns to IKEA?

Yes — we can collect a returns-to-IKEA item and drop it back to Ballymun on the next run. Quoted as a one-way trip.
