Facebook Marketplace has changed how Irish people buy furniture. Quality used pieces at a fraction of the new price — but most listings say “collection only,” and a 3-seat sofa won't fit in your Yaris. That's where we come in.
We do Marketplace and DoneDeal collections every single day across the South-East. Here's how it works, what it costs, and how to avoid the few scams that catch people out.
The process
- ●Send us the Marketplace / DoneDeal / Adverts.ie listing link via WhatsApp
- ●Confirm the seller's address (we'll need Eircode if available)
- ●Tell us when you've agreed the collection time with the seller
- ●We turn up at the seller's, check the item is as advertised, load it carefully
- ●Drop it to your door, carried in and placed where you want it
- ●Pay us on completion — cash, Revolut or bank transfer
Pricing
- ●Within Kilkenny city — from €40
- ●Kilkenny ↔ Carlow / Waterford — from €70
- ●Kilkenny ↔ Dublin / Cork — from €120
- ●Multi-item or several pickups in one trip — quoted on the route
Quotes are agreed before we leave the house, not on the doorstep. If the seller turns out to be a no-show or the item isn't as described, we'll let you know straight away — no point loading something you're going to reject.
Questions to ask the seller before you pay anything
- ●Send a recent photo of the actual item (not the listing photo)
- ●Confirm exact dimensions if it's a big piece — a 2.4m sofa might not get up your stairwell
- ●Ask about damage, smell (smokers, pets) and any missing parts
- ●Confirm collection address and a reliable time window
- ●Get their phone number — we may need to ring on the day
Avoiding scams
Marketplace scams are usually one of three things: fake listings of items that don't exist; bait-and-switch (listing shows a Chesterfield, reality is a flat-pack lookalike); or insistence on payment up-front without a viewing.
- ●Never pay in full before we've laid eyes on the item
- ●Use Revolut Pay-To-Card so payments are traceable and reversible if needed
- ●Be suspicious of any seller who refuses a phone call
- ●If a deal feels too good to be true, it almost always is
- ●Cash on collection (when we're already there with the seller in person) is the safest option for both sides
Most-collected Marketplace items
- ●Sofas, sofa-beds and corner suites (the #1 collection by far)
- ●Solid wood dining tables (Marketplace prices are 80% off new)
- ●Beds, mattresses, headboards
- ●Fridges, freezers, washing machines
- ●Wardrobes — especially solid-wood and IKEA PAX
- ●Office desks and chairs (post-2020 boom)
Frequently asked
How quickly can you collect a Marketplace item?
Often same-day in Kilkenny. Send us the listing in the morning, we'll usually have it at your door by evening — assuming the seller is available.
Do you collect from outside Kilkenny?
Yes — we routinely collect from Carlow, Waterford, Tipperary, Laois, Wexford, Kildare and Dublin. Further out (Cork, Limerick, Galway) is doable but pricier.
Will you pay the seller for me?
We can collect and pay cash on your behalf if you've sent us the funds in advance via Revolut or bank transfer. We'll send you a photo on collection. Most people prefer to pay the seller direct (Revolut to phone number) and just have us do the lift.
What if the item doesn't fit when I see it?
We bring blankets and straps and can usually make pieces work even if they're tight. If it genuinely won't fit through a doorway, we'll talk through options — sometimes feet come off, sometimes a window is the answer. Once or twice it has had to come back to the van and we go from there.
